A single rose
Is what all I have;
and as I rise,
please don't be sad.
I'll fly so high till I reach
Heaven;
And when I do,
My tears will end.
May joy be with you
And may happiness stay strong;
My spirit shall guide you,
Through what's right
And wrong.
And through every song
That every tongue does sing;
You'll hear my voice,
Through the wind & rain.
Mourn not for me
My spirit is not gone;
Inside everyone's heart,
My love for them stays strong.
I will not fade though
I am no longer here;
Sorrows will pass,
Please cry no tears.
Upon this ship
I shall take my leave;
I'll be sailing high,
As high can be.
Till I find peace
Until promise me you
Won't cry;
I'm still with you,
In your heart & mind.

A Memory of Sweet Thorns
“For months I choked on flower petals
Stifled my coughing as I tended to your needs
You claimed to be without air
So I tried to help you breathe
(even though I was the one suffocating)
Blinded by the widespread leaves
Curling flower vines wound about my wrists
I was a willful prisoner of (imagined) love
Believing that the thorns leaving marks on my heart
Was apart of being loved
But it’s not. It doesn’t have to be. Love shouldn’t hurt.
And oh, how you’ve hurt me.
Willfully, intentionally. Eating up my happiness.
When I found the seeds hidden throughout
Our conversations, your home, the food you offered me

Cry for You
I don't like crying.
It's wet and messy
And makes my eyes puff up and redden,
But I want to cry for you.
I want the world to cry for you.
You could melt the coldest of hearts
And make a stranger feel at home
With just one look
And an offering of your warmth.
You shared your love with everyone.
The lifetime with you
Seemed shorter than your final hour,
Thinking of you alone in the clinic,
Wishing you were in my arms,
Wishing I could cuddle the cancer away...
And now it feels wrong
To still have to eat and work
And do stupid mundane things
In a world without you,
When I only want to cry for you.
And so if the world must tur

In That Moment
Have you ever had a moment
When you felt like
You were going to cry,
But forced your eyes to stay dry
Because you were ready to die inside?
